Ohio Commemorates World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Ensuring health and safety has been a concern of The Center for Community Solutions since its inception in 1913 when it was called The Federation for Charity and Philanthropy. Over the decades, our organization played key roles in creating and monitoring the implementation of state and local laws and protocols to protect Ohio residents.

Today, June 17, the Ohio Attorney General’s Elder Abuse Commission will commemorate this special day by hosting a half-day conference, Effective Responses to Elder Abuse and Exploitation, in Columbus.

Today, protecting and advancing the wellbeing of older adults is one of our policy priorities. We believe in the importance of Adult Protective Services, which, among other things, requires reporting of suspected abuse. (See our recent report, Budget Priorities: Adult Protective Services.)

In addition, we support community efforts to identify, expand awareness of, and stop abuse and exploitation. One such effort is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Today, June 17, the Ohio Attorney General’s Elder Abuse Commission will commemorate this special day by hosting a half-day conference, Effective Responses to Elder Abuse and Exploitation, in Columbus. Tara Britton, our director of public policy, serves as the Elder Abuse Commission’s policy committee chair and will be one of the presenters. Free CLE, CEU and law enforcement credits will be available. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. You can find more information here.
