The Ohio Department of Medicaid is no stranger to the politics or the policies of the ACA when it comes to its Medicaid program. What’s more, with eight years of continued administration, Medicaid has undergone significant transformational changes that have fundamentally altered the ways in which the program operates. Due to these changes, and because of the impending gubernatorial election, The Center for Community Solutions undertook an effort to revisit the strategic direction of Medicaid as an enterprise of the state. The hope with this effort is to inform policymakers, stakeholders and advocates about the direction of the program. The goal is also to inform participants about its current structure, to ensure effective and efficient administration moving forward. To provide something comprehensive and meaningful, the webinar was organized in three parts:

- Click here for the slides for PART 2, Assessment: What is the current environment, including the opportunities and challenges
- Click here for the slides for PART 3, Recommendations: What should be done moving forward

April 2, 2018 Webinar: Benefit Cliffs and Helping Families on the Path from Poverty to Prosperity
As families climb from poverty to economic independence, they lose public benefits as their income increases. Unfortunately, there are points on the journey where earning even $1 more means the family will lose a benefit worth hundreds of dollars each month. This phenomena, known as the benefit cliff, has been called the “single greatest barrier to self-sufficiency for low income individuals.”
This webinar, presented by Emily Campbell, Senior Fellow / Williamson Family Fellow for Applied Research and the Associate Director of The Center for Community Solutions will introduce participants to the benefit cliff and how it can impact low-income families. New data will be presented which shows where Ohio working families would experience a cliff. We will discuss how policy decisions in recent years have improved or deepened cliffs, and what it might take families to overcome these obstacles.
This webinar is eligible for one social work CEU through the National Association of Social Workers, Ohio chapter. Please click below to take a short test.
