The Center for Community Solutions has a long history of creating transformational change, incubating some of Greater Cleveland’s and Ohio’s most significant health and human services and policies. From shaping tax policy in the 1920s to advancing preventive healthcare in the 1990s, Community Solutions has consistently worked at the intersection of policy, research, and the needs of Ohio’s most marginalized communities.
Through our Policy Ambassador Program, we’re not only spreading vital information throughout our neighborhoods, we’re cultivating a network of leaders to advocate, inform, and turn data into progress.

Policy Ambassadors at Community Solutions
The initiative aligns experiential learning with policy and research to help ambassadors understand how decisions translate into real-world impact. Policy decisions determine access to care, quality of education, and the strength of community supports. These decisions can catalyze equity or perpetuate disparities. Research becomes more than data; it reflects lived experience and community trends, showing who benefits, who is excluded, and where inequities persist.
The aim is to translate complex systems into understandable terms for their communities—turning confusion into conversation, and conversation into potential action. Ambassadors participate in a variety of activities.
- State budget and policy training
- Community engagement and outreach
- Service projects that reinforce hands-on learning

Programs like this inform and empower communities
The policy ambassador program strengthens community leadership by equipping residents with knowledge, resources, and tools to advocate for meaningful change. Programs like this don’t just inform, they empower. As a young professional, I reflect on my journey which includes serving as a Buckeye Ambassador with Burten Bell Carr Development, Inc. to interning at Cleveland City Hall Office of Equal Opportunity, completing AmeriCorps, and engaging in various leadership programs. These programs serve as a foundation for development, cultivation, and refinement—pushing individuals to grow into their fullest potential.
Supporting the growth of emerging leaders strengthens both people and the communities they serve, which in return creates a future where every community thrives, building stronger, healthier, and more sustainable neighborhoods.
