Celebration of Human Services: Public Service Award
On October 9 we were honored to offer the 2020 Community Solutions Award for Public Service in Honor of John Begala to Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) and Kimberly Hall, the Director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
This award honors those who have shown a great commitment to public service, especially as it relates to improving health and human services in Ohio. This year Community Solutions honored these two inspirational women for their extraordinary commitment to ensure Ohioans have access to food and nutrition services via the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. We are particularly grateful for their efforts to create the Pandemic-EBT program which provided critical assistance to hundreds of thousands of Ohio school-aged children. Please watch a recording of the short program below!
2020 Anisfield-Wolf Award
On October 16, Community Solutions was honored to give the 2020 Anisfield-Wolf Award to Literacy in the H.O.O.D. and its founder Chrishawndra Matthews. Each year the Anisfield-Wolf award, and its $25,000 prize, goes to a nonprofit community organization for outstanding service. This year Literacy in the H.O.O.D., in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, filled little free libraries across the City of Cleveland with thousands of books. Matthews said the organization will use the award money to purchase more books but also to be able to hold socially distanced events. Please learn more about this year’s winner in the short video below!
Celebration 2020: Most Treasured Volunteer Awards
On October 23, Community Solutions honored six outstanding volunteers who make a difference in each of their communities with Most Treasured Volunteer awards. For this year’s virtual event we included videos telling the stories of each of the volunteers and the impact they make in their communities. Watch the short event below!
